Deluge Torrent compared to uTorrent
This is far from new, but I haven’t written a post about it so I figured I would.
Lately, I have been using Deluge torrent on my windows xp box instead of uTorrent for pretty much just two reasons: It’s open source and I can squeeze just slightly faster speeds out of it.
So, let’s take a quick look :
Interface:
These one is pretty close, but I’ll have to give it to utorrent since it’s skinable, otherwise they are almost the same
Features:
These one again is pretty close. uTorrent has a few more advanced features but deluge can handle plugins (but none really exist…). Plus deluge has a bitchin’ feature to run the daemon on one pc and the interface on another. I haven’t tested this, but I’ve been meaning to. So I’m gonna call this one a draw with the future potential going to Deluge
Speed:
I get just slightly faster/consistent speeds with deluge. Not enough for an average user to switch but something for those that are looking for every ounce of speed to maybe check out.
Bugs
This one goes to Deluge. They are buggier than utorrent but I really only found this on windows since it’s a port.
Platforms
Deluge is available for all major OS’s. uTorrent on the other hand is just windows. It can be ran using Wine on linux though. But I’m gonna give this to Deluge.

Deluge is open source which is the decided factor here for me. If I can, I will always choose open source.
So there’s a quick comparison. Maybe sometime I’ll do a more in depth one with a few more clients but don’t hold you’re breathe 
How about memory usage comparison?
Hey, one of the feature I like is that Deluge is separated into 2 parts.
The GTK Gui client and the server client.
Right now, I have the Deluge Daemon (server) running in my server and now, the server handles the downloading/uploading. Which means even if I quit the Gui torrent, the download is still active.
Plus, I can access the same download/upload information from any computer in my house, and from any OS (I run Windows XP and linux)
So for me, Deluge beats uTorrent hands on.
For whatever reason, Deluge has always gotten faster download speeds for me and better configuration options than Transmission. I can’t compare it to the Windoze apps because I haven’t used Windoze in years, but Deluge is faster, better, and identical in appearance to uTorrent as I remember. A 2.0 clone, if you will.

I agree with Janine: I *always* get better downloading speeds with Deluge.
Deluge also has an excellent plugin: the Scheduler. It is possible to schedule upload/download limits (or even no upload/download at all) for all the times of the days according to the week. Therefore, if I want to download files only at night or weekends, I don’t even need to close Deluge if I configure correctly this plugin.
Utorrent now has a headless linux client available, built from the same codebase, that you connect to using webui.
Found deluge faster and neater than utorrent. At first, I always stick with utorrent. But….
After I wanted to download torrents in linux and downloaded the utorrent for linux…. “what the..??!”
Don’t really understand to use it. So, I tried Deluge,, and it’s unbelievably far more better than utorrent.
Why?
>The menu is simpler, and easier to understand (in some aspect)
>There is a tracker category.
>Much more tidy than utorrent.
>Easier to change the individual torrent options using the bottom menu/info bars.
>Download is not focused to ONE peer/seed like utorrent did, but it is downloading from MORE peers/seeds.
